Description

The Schottky diode (named after the German physicist Walter H. Schottky), also known as the Schottky barrier diode or hot-carrier diode, is a semiconductor diode formed by the junction of a semiconductor with a metal. It has a low forward voltage drop and a very fast switching action.

In this diode, a connection created between metal and semiconductor to form a Schottky barrier i.e. metal side performs as an anode, and the n-type semiconductor works as a cathode. The selection of the combination of the metal and semiconductor decides the forward voltage of the diode.
